imago proudly presents:
Life is not hurrying
on to a receding future, nor hankering after
an imagined past. It is the turning
aside like Moses to the miracle
of the lit bush…
– wrote Welsh poet R.S. Thomas in his poem “The Bright Field”, which is featured in The Turning Aside: The Kingdom Poets Book of Contemporary Christian Poetry. The poetry in this new anthology also acts as a catalyst, encouraging us to turn aside from our self-focus and toward God.
It’s time for a new anthology of contemporary Christian poetry — one that includes such poets as Margaret Avison, Christian Wiman, Dana Gioia, Les Murray, Robert Cording, Robert Siegel, Luci Shaw, Rowan Williams, Wendell Berry, Malcolm Guite, Scott Cairns and Sarah Klassen — one that makes very clear, the significant contributions Christians continue to make to world culture in the form of poetry.
This anthology — The Turning Aside: The Kingdom Poets Book of Contemporary Christian Poetry — is edited by Canadian poet D.S. Martin. His most recent book is Conspiracy of Light: Poems Inspired by the Legacy of C.S. Lewis. He is also the Series Editor for the Poiema Poetry Series from Cascade Books. The Turning Aside is an activity under Imago.
