George MacDonald (1824–1905) had a significant influence on such well-known writers as C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, G.K. Chesterton and Madeleine L’Engle. Lewis said on reading MacDonald’s Phantastes as a teenager that “my imagination was in a certain sense baptised.” Later, Lewis realized with that reading he had “crossed a frontier.”

Canadian scholar Kirstin Jeffrey Johnson has published widely and lectured internationally on MacDonald and his work. She will give a talk and reply to questions from the audience.

Andrew Donaldson, former worship consultant to the World Council of Churches, is a musician, hymn-poet and composer. He will lead us in the singing of hymns by George MacDonald.
